Jerome’s Supporters and Opponents
Jerome had many friends and foes throughout his lifetime. In this episode, we discuss a listener’s question: Who were Jerome’s contemporary dialogue partners? After briefly reviewing some of Jerome’s contemporaries such as Augustine, Aurelius of Carthage and his monastic friends in Gaul, we make a brief overview of his four major theological opponents with whom he engaged in debate between 380-420. Join us in this episode as we discuss some of the major theological friends and foes whose writings and thought Jerome engaged throughout his years in service to the Church.
