St. Augustine on Sinful Clergy, Donatism and the Spiritual Life
St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430) devoted much of his work as a bishop to writing about the spiritual life and sinful clergy. In light of the recent scandals in the Catholic Church, we are going to look at Augustine’s treatment of the Christian’s spiritual life as it pertained to the controversy with Donatism. In this episode, you will learn about the key differences between Catholic and Donatist Christians over the efficacy (i.e., effectiveness) of the Sacraments and the source of their power.
